Hamburg rallies to draw Bayern in Bundesliga opener

against their old club in a 2-2 tie at Allianz Arena on Friday, spoiling Jurgen
Klinsmann's coaching debut in the first match of the 2008-09 Bundesliga season.
Hamburg, which finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season, went down by two
goals less than 20 minutes into the season opener, but Guerrero struck before
halftime and Trochowski leveled the match after half on a penalty kick.
Although Klinsmann's debut wasn't a complete success, new Hamburg coach Martin
Jol was excited about the result.
"I think we have to be satisfied," said Jol, who played for Bayern and coached
Tottenham for the last three seasons.
Klinsmann, who coached Germany's national team to third place in the 2006 World
Cup, was making his club coaching debut and after 16 minutes was poised to pick
up his first victory.
German international Bastian Schweinsteiger built on his strong Euro 2008 with
the opening goal in the 12th minute.
Just four minutes later, another German international - Podolski - extended the
lead to two goals by converting a penalty kick.
But the defending Bundesliga champs - fresh off their 20th league title - were
not able to hold the lead, ending all hopes of another season of leading the
league from start to finish.
"If at Bayern Munich [down 2-0], then you have to satisfied with the draw," Jol
said.
On Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen hosts Borussia Dortmund, Arminia Bielefeld hosts
Werder Bremen, Wolfsburg hosts Koln, Schalke hosts Hannover, Karlsruhe hosts
Bochum and Energie hosts Hoffenheim.
On Sunday, Eintracht hosts Hertha Berlin and Monchengladbach hosts Stuttgart as
the opening weekend wraps up.
