Mavericks name Elie assistant coach

Dallas, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Dallas Mavericks hired Mario Elie as an
assistant coach on Friday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not
disclosed.
An 11-year NBA veteran, Elie averaged 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists
in 732 regular season games with Golden State, Philadelphia, Portland,
Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix. He also played in 116 playoff games and won
three NBA Championships with Houston (1994, 1995) and San Antonio (1999).
Elie joins the Mavericks after serving as an assistant coach with Golden State
for two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06). He also served in the same capacity
with the Spurs for the 2003-04 season.
"I am very excited to come to this great organization," Elie said. "I look
forward to working with Mark Cuban and Avery Johnson, who's one of the best
coaches in the NBA."
The move comes on the heels of the Mavs' epic first-round playoff loss to
Golden State last season.
The team's 2008 campaign tips off with the regular-season opener at Cleveland
on October 31.

In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
