RSL acquires U.S. midfielder from Colorado

07/17/2007 -
Commerce City, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Real Salt Lake acquired U.S. National
Team midfielder Kyle Beckerman from Colorado on Monday for midfielder Mehdi
Ballouchy as the struggling teams completed their second trade in four days.
Beckerman has made three appearances with the U.S. this year, most recently in
the Copa America. He played in two games in the tournament, including all 90
minutes in a 1-0 loss to Colombia.
Beckerman is an eight-year MLS veteran. He had his best season in Major League
Soccer last year when his seven goals tied for the team lead. He also had four
assists last year. He had one goal and two assists for Colorado this season.
"The addition of Kyle Beckerman gives us a hard-nosed player with a refuse-to-
lose attitude," RSL Technical Director/Director of Operations John Ellinger
said. "Kyle's recent performances at Copa America for the U.S. demonstrated
his two-way abilities on both the defensive and attacking sides of the ball,
and we are excited to utilize not only his ball-winning abilities in the
middle, but someone who is comfortable going forward."
Ballouchy was drafted No. 2 in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft and had appeared in his
first 46 games in MLS prior to serving a recent one-game suspension. He had
two goals and an assist as a rookie but didn't have a goal or an assist this
year in 14 starts.
"We are very sad to part with an outstanding player and outstanding human
being in Kyle, but that was the price required to acquire one of the most
valuable assets in MLS," Rapids GM Charlie Wright said.
"(We) are excited to add another attacking option to the team," Rapids coach
Fernando Clavijo said. "He will bring a youthful creativity to (the team)."
Beckerman is expected to join RSL on Wednesday and could make his debut for
the club Saturday in an exhibition against English Premier League club
Everton.
RSL (1-8-6) has lost three straight since its first - and only - win of the
season on June 23 against D.C. and returns to its MLS schedule on Aug. 28
when it hosts New England.
Colorado (4-8-5), which has lost six of its last eight games and hasn't won

supplemental pick in 2009.

MySportsbook.com and Kentucky Derby Offer Bonuses
The 2008 Kentucky Derby has announced a $1-million bonus for this weekend’s 134th ‘Run for the Roses’ and MySportsbook.com is doing the same.
Well, not quite $1 million, but MySportsbook.com is offering a 75% rebate for Kentucky Derby lines. Check out the exclusive horse racing bonus for all the details.
According to MySportsbook.com, the favorites for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky are: Curlin (+250); Street Sense (+500); Scat Daddy (+700); Circular Quay (+750); and Nobiz Like Shobiz (+800).
Derby organizers announced this week that there will be a $1-million bonus at the 2007 Kentucky Derby odds if the first-place horse wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths – the margin of Barbaro's victory last year. The bonus would be divided Saturday among the winning trainer, jockey, owner and a charity, with each receiving 25 percent. The designated charity is the Barbaro Memorial Fund.
''It's certainly creative, it's certainly fun and it has something for the horsemen, which we always want to embrace,'' Churchill Downs president and chief executive Robert Evans said at a news conference. ''What's really cool is it will force us to remember Barbaro.''
Meanwhile, the Derby favorite – Curlin – is going against the odds this year. It's been 125 years since Apollo won after skipping his 2-year-old season, and not since Regret in 1915 has such a lightly seasoned horse worn the blanket of red roses.
Arkansas Derby winner Curlin – unbeaten in three career races – tries to overcome both those obstacles in Saturday's 133rd Derby.
''We're not running against history,'' trainer Steve Asmussen said Monday. ''We're running against who they load up.''
Six other horses have run in the Derby without benefit of 2-year-old races and with three or fewer starts. The best any of them managed was a sixth-place finish by Showing Up last year.
Asmussen dismissed suggestions that Curlin's lack of racing experience could keep him from the winner's circle.
”He exudes confidence and he's got a great presence about him,'' the trainer said. ''I feel great about the position we're in. He's not worried about anything, why should you be?''
The Kentucky Derby is at 4:04 p.m., ET Saturday.

It's less than a month until the NHL hockey betting season opens at MySportsbook.com and preparations are underway for another battle in the race to hoist Lord Stanley's mug in 2007.
As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.
Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.
Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1. In the basement are the Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and St. Louis Blues who all have 100-1 odds to win.
