Tire gamble pays off for Keselowski in Iowa win

Newton, IA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Brad Keselowski passed Kyle Busch with eight
laps remaining and then held off the current Nationwide Series points leader
on old tires to win Saturday's inaugural U.S. Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway.
While Busch and several other drivers on the lead lap pitted for tires during
a late-race caution, Keselowski and crew chief Tony Eury Sr. decided to
gamble, as Keselowski remained on the track.
Busch moved around Keselowski to take the top position with 26 laps to go, but
the 12th and final caution for an incident involving Justin Allgaier, Erik
Darnell and Steve Wallace set up a 10-lap shootout to the finish. Keselowski
passed Busch and reclaimed the lead with eight laps remaining.
Keselowski recorded his second victory of the season and the fourth of his
Nationwide career.
"Kyle was a little bit better on short runs, and then he put those two tires
on and had a little for me," Keselowski said. "We were in trouble but kept
digging hard and forced a mistake on Kyle's part when we drove by him."
In addition to his race winnings, Keselowski collected a $75,000 bonus from
series title sponsor Nationwide Insurance for winning the third "Dash 4 Cash"
event on the schedule this season. Full-time series regulars and part-
time/limited series-only regulars were eligible for the insurance company's
bonus program. No driver took the prize money at Nashville and Kentucky
earlier this year.
"This is the coolest race I could win, and $75,000 from Nationwide, I
appreciate that," Keselowski added.
Keselowski was so confident of his car's performance prior to the race that he
did not participate in Friday's final practice at the 0.875-mile track.
Busch's second-place finish tied Jack Ingram's series record of finishing
first or second to nine consecutive races.
"I don't know what to I have do to win these races, but it's very
disappointing and frustrating, and I guess I come here to finish second in
these deals," Busch said.
Busch has failed to win four Nationwide races this season after holding the
lead with less than 10 laps remaining.
Keselowski and Busch combined for 205 laps led in the 250-lap event.
Jason Leffler finished third, followed by Carl Edwards and Kelly Bires.
Jason Keller, Kenny Wallace, Michael McDowell, Scott Lagasse Jr. and Stephen
Leicht completed the top-10.
Busch stretched his lead over Edwards to 207 points. Both drivers had to start
from the rear of the field since they did not qualify their cars earlier in
the day. Busch and Edwards were en route to Iowa after final Sprint Cup
practice at Pocono.

After praising his leadership and work ethic through spring workouts, the Chiefs announced Tuesday they had signed the 27-year-old Cassel to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed, but he will almost certainly be one of the highest-paid members of the team.
"We are excited to be able to reach a long-term agreement for Matt Cassel to be a Kansas City Chief for many years to come," owner and board chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "His proven leadership on and off the field will be a tremendous asset to the organization."
Patriots made him their franchise player, meaning his salary for this season will be about $15 million.
New head coach Todd Haley, taking over for Herm Edwards after a 2-14 season, refused to name a starter at any position during offseason workouts. But it was obvious to everyone the team belonged to Cassel.
"I go out there each and every day with that focus that I'm the starter," Cassel said during a June minicamp. "Competition brings out the best in everybody."
The signing will come as welcome news to Cassel's new coaches and teammates. Amiable and hardworking, online football betting he appeared to win over everyone at minicamp.

Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who had been Bill Belichick's assistant in New England, engineered the trade after the Patriots became convinced that Brady would recover fully from his knee operation.
"Since Matt arrived in Kansas City, he has embraced the team and the community," Pioli said. "His work ethic, his ability and competitive presence is what we expect from our players."
