McCarthy has revealed that Andy Keogh is unlikely to play again until March
because of an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international striker has been told he
needs surgery after picking up the problem in training on Thursday.
"Very sadly Andy won't be available for a while," said McCarthy. "He damaged
his ankle yesterday and has got to have an operation and will be missing for
up to 12 weeks.
"It's a huge blow for us because he's a great kid and he was devastated
yesterday to hear that news.
"It just happened in training when he was running through and got clipped.
"He'd actually scored and jumped over Wayne (Hennessey) and just rocked his
ankle when he landed."
In better news for McCarthy, Chris Iwelumo has returned to the squad after
being sidelined for six weeks with a broken metatarsal.
The Scotland international has been sidelined since suffered the injury during
the game against Stoke City.
